Exhibition Reflection

May 10, 2010

What did you feel went really well for you during your Exhibition?

I think one of the things that went really well was the video. I think the video we made was very good because it was “In Plain English” (Simple). It was Simple yet we explainded a lot about poverty.

What difficulties did you have and how did you deal with them?

The main problem we had is that when we were filming people kept disturbing so in the end we had to make a note that said “Filming to not come in”. Another problem we had was that somtimes there were lines on the camera when we were filiming. We solved that problem by using natral sunlight instead of lights so we had to film next to a window.

What have you learned about yourself?

I learned that I like to have everything planned out properly. I also leanr’t that I contribute a lot in my group.

What ‘big ideas did you take away from the Exhibition?

I learn’t that we are VERY lucky. About one in 6 lives in absolute poverty. SO thats about 1.1 BILLION people who live under 33 baht  ($1U.S dollar) per day.

How will you continue to move forward with your learning – what will you do to live with the future in mind?

I will try to save money, donate to charities e.t.c. I will think twice when I buy somthing and think about the people who live on under 33 baht per day.

What have you learned about group work?

Good things:

Work faster
More effecieant
More ideas
Spread the workload

Bad things:

Group one: Privacy settings on facebook (Arne and Johann)

good things:

The presenters didn’t just talk about privacy settings they would actually set it for you (if you have facebook).

I also think a good thing about their presentation is that they stuck adds around school so people know where to find them and what time they are presenting.

I think that they should talk more about what can happen if your privacy settings are not done right.

Group two:  Vampire power (Angus, Mathew and Casino)

I think that the in plain English that they made is very good because of the lighting and the video cameras they used.

I think another good thing they did was instead of calling their presentation something like electricity saving they called it vampire power. That was a good idea because then people remember their presentation and it makes it more unique.

I think the thing they could improve on is that they should have brought a spare light bulb because the one they had broke. They also should have changed their location because they were at the back of the old library.

  • The progress you have made in developing your presentation

So far my group has started filming our in plain english. We need a few more takes and my group thinks that we can finish and then start editing. If we finish that quickly we might add-on to the script.

  •  What you have achieved so far

So far we have got some pretty decent In Plain English’s  but we can still make it better because in the end my other group members hand slides on to the stage.

  • Who was helped you and how (if anyone)

Mr. Chris helped us because he gave us the idea for the In Plain English. He also helped us Organise the speeches.

  • Things that have caused you difficulty (if any)

One of the main problems was that when we were filming people kept walking into the room we were using and disturbed us. In the end we had to make a sign to stop people coming in. Another problem was when we filmed sometimes there were lines on the flip camera so we had to find the right sort of lighting

  • What your plans are for the next few days – show a timeline of how you expect to get the job done

I hope by tomorrow my group will have added to the script and then spend the next day practising and the rest of the week filming and the week after that practise what we are going to say.

  • Any problems or issues you need help with.

The main problem is that due to lighting the screen on the flip camera flickers and the video is very bad.

The five most important things I have learned is

With poverty there is this thing called the poverty cycle. The cycle is, when people don’t have money they can’t get a job so that means less pay so then they can’t send their children to school so then the children don’t get education and the child becomes an adult with no education they can’t get a good job.

It is very unfair for the people in poverty because some people make the better of them like they traffic them human child soldiers, slaves e.t.c

A lot of people feel sad about the people in poverty but they don’t acctually do enything to help them. Actions speak louder than words.

People that stay in poverty for a long time might turn to crime, drugs, open to exploitation and that can effect us by there crimes and if they take drugs they might to somthing crazy.

In a way it is good for the world that some people are in poverty because if everybody lived like us then the world would run out of resorces really fast. I think to solve the poverty probem we need to not give more money to them but to change the distribution of money so in stead of  for example on person haveing 90 baht and the other with 10 I think that they should bothe have 50 instead of both have 90 baht because that is not sustainible.

The things I want people to learn from my presentation is……

Poverty is bad and that people should stop being greedy and only take what they need and don’t waste money on 10 cars when you only need 1.

Donate things you don’t need like extra soap, pillows, toys e.t.c.

Think about people who are poor and they don’t have money. e.g. maybe you buy a drink for 50 baht yet other families have to live on 35 baht a day and uassually there are 4-10 people in the family.

My presentation will be shown with an In Plain English because my group thinks that it is a nice and simple way to present.

I will need….

Flip camera
White pice of paper
Quiet place

I think mr Jago can help because he can setup the flip camera and the tripod and if the flipcamera james again he can unjam it.

I hope My group can finish our script by thursday and make all the pecies by friday and start filming on monday.

Exhibition 1

April 5, 2010

Today my group started to fill in the compass. My group filled in a little of each. Today My group also  went to a speech on HIV and AIDS. My group also tried the programme dollar street. It was pretty cool.

Today I learned that 1 billion people live on less than 1 dollar a day. 2 billion people live on less than 2 dollars a day. I also learned that every 8.3 seconds someone dies from a food related diseases.

I go this information from Mr Warren and the World Visions Video .
I also got some information from the Speech.

I wonder what would happen to the world resource wise if nobody in the world was in poverty and everybody lived like us?

I wonder why the person that gave the speech on HIV (I forgot her name) decided to study about that?

Why doesnt governments help support NGO’s?

In the next few days I am hoping to answer all the questions I have.

Exhibition 3

April 2, 2010

Today I went to the klongtoey slums. There I donated some money and some toys. I also played a game with a child but the child was violent and he kept attacking me.

Today I learned that there are  a lot of organizations helping the poor and that the slums are actually very close to me.

I got most of my information from guest speakers and some of it from the web.

I wonder how did this chain of poverty start?
Does the gouvornment decide who is rich and who is poor?
If the gouvornment si unfair than why doesent somebody do somthing about it?

In the next few weeks I hope that I will get some more information and site it on noodlebib.

Exhibition 2

March 30, 2010

Today  my group presented our information that we got so far on poverty and education. My group also came up with our lines of inquiry. We also came up with some questions on our topic and sorted them.

Today I learned that perspectives can be very different. I learned that when I was presenting because mr.  Chris’s perspective was very different to mr. Adrian. I also got some more survey responses.

On average how many people get out of poverty in a year?
On average how many people get into poverty in a year?
What country has the most percent of people in poverty?
Which country has the least percentage of people in poverty?

Plan for the next few days:

Try to finnish sorting and writing questions.
Find more information.
Interview people.
Get some books on the subject.

March 29, 2010

Today my group made a little presentation on Powerpoint. My group also analyzed the Results for our survey.

Today we learned (from our survey) that some people know what poverty is some people think they know what poverty is and other people don’t know what poverty is.

Survey-monkey , to get other peoples responses
Adrian Watts, Told us a lot about poverty

How many people will be in poverty worldwide in the year 2020?
How many people are in poverty worldwide right know?

Hopefully in the next few days I will have more data from survey monkey and I will be able to interview someone who knows about the topic.

March 25, 2010

Today me and my group made questions and made a survey on survey-monkey.

I learned that mainly there is absolute poverty and relative poverty.

Today I mr Adrian taught me about Poverty.

I want to know what other types of poverty are there?

My plan for the next few days is to collect more information on my topic

March 24, 2010

Today I started useing noodlebib and sited the presentation we heard.
Today I learned that many people in y6 is also doing poverty.
We got our information from people from other classess doing the same topic.
I wonder why so many people decided to do poverty and education.
I am hoping that in the next few days I will start getting a lot of information.
