Queen Mary

October 25, 2009

Queen mary was alienatedfrom her father henry theVIII during thedivorce (it was not a divorce in the modern sense, but an annulment) from her mother. As her parents’ marriage was deemed null and void, Mary was then deemed illegitimate and thus deprived for a time of her status as an heir to the throne. This fueled her rage regarding her father’s break from the Roman Catholic Church, which had previously instructed him that he could not divorce from her mother. Mary felt that if her father, King Henry VIII, had obeyed the Roman Catholic Church, she would not be seen as “illegitimate, and her right to the throne would not have been questioned. This is the foundation upon which her loyalty to Rome was laid. By the time of King Henry VIII’s death, however, she had been restored as second in line to the throne, after her half-brother Edward, who was physically weak.

King Rama 5

King Chulalongkorn the Great was also known as Phra Chula Chomklao Chaoyuhua. He was born on September 20, 1853 in Bangkok Thailand. During his long reign (42 years) many important and useful things were achieved for our country. One of the major reforms, which would later prove to be deep-rooted and highly effective was to improve the Siamese educational system. At that time he was to Modernize Siam (Thailand) like many countries in Europe by Studying many technologies such as banking, public Transportation, military organization, museums, modern education, etc.

He saved Siam (Thailand) from the Colony-hunting empires. Another vision that became a great thing for all Thais is that he released slaves to freedom without casualties. Thai people also call him Pra Piya Maharaja which means “Our Beloved King”. He introduced the Baht (still in use Today) as the official currency and made taxes directly payable to the government, cutting out the corrupt middlemen.

King Chulalongkorn also set up Siam’s (Thailand) first hospital based on western medical practices. Thailand’s first railroad was opened in his reign in 1896 from Bangkok to Ayutthaya. He issued the law about clothing because when he went to Europe, he knew that people there wearing proper cloth. That is why he made up that law.

Why I Choose King Rama V ? I choose him because he really changed the Thai history and the people in his country. I am really appreciated of what he have done and have put his effort in for our beloved country Thailand. If we didn’t have him, Thailand wouldn’t be as modern as today and we won’t have the high technology equipments and the Thai baht used today in our daily lives. We have the transportation developing system like the first rail road in Thailand. I might become a slave like in the olden day if he didn’t release the slavery system. I might walk to school covering with just one small piece of cloth material if he didn’t issued the dressing law or I might have not school to go. I absolutely appreciate what he did for ours country. It was really useful.

This is picture of the great Swami Vivekananda

I choose  Swami Vivekananda because during last summer holidays I visited Kanyakumari which is the southern tip of India. Here I went to the memorial of Swami Ji. I was very impressed and took a keen interest in him.

He  founded the Ramakrishna mission and through this mission he spread the teaching of hinduism to the world.

I think his teaching has contributed valuable lessons to indian leaders and they took his ideas about educating and modernising the thinking of indians. He is remembered even today because of this good thoughts and ideas to youngsters like me.

I chose Mahatma Gandhi because he gave India its freedom from the colonial rule. He was a peace-maker and fought the British through non-violence. He was a thinker and a risk-taker. He had lot of experience and influenced many people and even after his death, continues to do so. His main idea was non-violence. He won the British by protesting and non-violence means. An example is when the Indians had to pay taxes to buy salt, he went to Gujrat (a state in India) and made his own salt from the sea. This was one of his main protests which made the British leave India.

I think his achievments were great because these empowered India’s self-confidence. With Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy, India started to become a more confident and independent country. It learned how to use it’s own resources and money wisely.
